These past couple of weeks we talked about passwords pretty often. We’ve shared tips on safely sharing credentials with Bitwarden, storing them locally with KeePass, managing them with AuthPass or NordPass, exploring what Buttercup can do, generating strong passwords with SPNE and Dalenryder Password Generator, and recovering saved logins from external drives using ExtPassword!. This time around, we’re looking at something a bit different.
How do you know if your password is actually hard to crack?
Luckily, you don’t need to guess when you have Passwordmonster. It’s a straightforward tool where you enter a password and see how easy it would be to break.
The sample password we entered would take roughly 177 years to crack.
On top of estimating crack times, the tool checks whether your password includes uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Combining all four character types is standard practice if you want a password that is genuinely tough to crack. The site also offers plenty of security advice and background info, so it’s worth reading up to avoid a hilariously bad outcome.
How much longer will we rely on passwords?
