The name The Sims 4: Moschino Stuff might trick you into thinking that this pack is all about Moschino clothes. It is, but it’s also about photography, and that’s the primary reason why we loved it and why we’re recommending it to you on this lovely Sunday.
What is a Sunday Sims Spotlight?
A weekly article designed to inform The Sims community through a detailed look at expansions and numerous add-ons for the cult simulation game. We inform you about what works best in terms of mechanics and all the things you might encounter for decorating your home.
The pack adds 24 Create-a-Sim items and 38 Build/Buy items, including Moschino clothing, furniture, studio lights, photo frames, backdrops and other photography equipment. The clothes are based on the real-life Moschino x The Sims capsule collection, along with pieces inspired by Moschino’s previous collections.
The Build/Buy additions work better when combined with the photography equipment. A small studio, some lights, a backdrop and a few framed photos can turn an otherwise empty room into a proper workplace. And then, all that’s left it to…
Say Cheese
The big addition in this seven-year-old Stuff Pack is the Fashion Photographer branch of the Freelancer career. Our Sim can now look for photography gigs, choose assignments, take the required photos and submit the work before the deadline. It’s a well-established and well-realized addition, and we absolutely loved how we now have reasons to use the photography tools instead of putting a nice camera in the house and forgetting about it.
Setting up a studio makes the whole affair even more enjoyable. We can place a backdrop, add studio lights, choose a subject and work on getting the right shot. There are different poses and filters to play with. Also, the higher the Photography skill, the better the quality of the pictures our Sim takes. So, there’s another reason to spend some time investing in this skill.
It is still The Sims, so we wouldn’t want you to expect a full photography simulator. It is far from it, as a lot of the fun comes from creating our own little stories around the shoots. We can dress a Sim in one of the louder Moschino outfits, put them in front of a backdrop and turn the resulting pictures into decorations for the house. That’s it. And for a while, it’s more than enough.
Fashion First
The Moschino clothes are, well, what you’d pretty much expect. They are more specific than the usual Sims wardrobe additions. Some pieces work nicely for Sims who want to stand out, while others are clearly aimed at players who enjoy the brand’s more unusual style. They do make you stand out in a crowd, and it’s up to you to decide if that’s in a good or a bad way.
The Sims 4: Moschino Stuff‘s photography career gives the pack something to do beyond adding another batch of clothes and furniture. So, it comes highly recommended if you enjoy taking pictures of your Sims and creating your own stories around them. If photography isn’t something you normally bother with, then the Moschino clothes and studio items will have to do most of the work. For the price of the DLC, which is often discounted to around $7, we’d say that’s worth the price.
