Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance: What We Know so Far!

Previously, we talked about how Capcom brought the heat to SGF 2026. Aside from the Resident Evil Veronica Remake and FF7’s Tifa in SF6, we also briefly touched on the new Monster Hunter expansion. Since then, we’ve managed to dig up some more relevant info that we think you might appreciate, especially if you’re still burning through the base game.

The base game is currentlyon sale for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

During a recent developer breakdown video, which you can watch above, director Takuro Hiraoka and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto announced that Monster Hunter Wilds is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. Sadly, they didn’t give a specific release window for the Nintendo port just yet, but they did promise more details in the future. Stay with us for more updates, as we’re keeping our eyes on all things Capcom.

What we do know right now is that the Ascendance expansion launches in 2027. The new high-altitude map is called The Skybound Eyrie, and it features floating, ruin-covered islands suspended right above the Forbidden Lands. BioShock Infinite vibes, anyone? No, just us? Regardless, you’ll use your Seikret mounts to glide between the different landmasses.

There’s also a brand-new tool for aerial combat. The so-called Boost Bracer adds fresh attacks, mobility options, and combos, which applies to all 14 weapon types. It’s going to be hella fun experimenting with the new additions!

Ascendance will bring back the brutal Master Rank difficulty tier. Just note that to access the expansion’s storyline and explore the Skybound Eyrie, you will first need to beat the base game’s 7★ Quest, Awakening from a Dream. Alongside a new pack of monsters that coordinate their attacks in the air, the developers confirmed that classic Elder Dragons are returning to the mix—and Kushala Daora was explicitly mentioned!

Before we get out of your hair, we simply must mention Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. If you feel like this might be your cup of tea, there is a free trial live on all platforms right now. The game is also on sale, and if you do end up buying it, your save data will carry over to the full game.
