The Last Worlds – Crossed Souls is Coming to EA

Lupio Studios is a small indie team made up of three Italian brothers—Matteo, Pasquale, and Vittorio. They’re currently building The Last Worlds: Crossed Souls. In case you didn’t know, it’s a 3D action-RPG inspired by Zelda, Dragon Quest, and Monster Hunter. It’s an ambitious project for a small team, but the seem to be hadling the challenge well. They’ve already got a massive, colorful alien planet ready for people to explore.

The planet itself is beautiful. it’s also, sadly, falling apart. Things used to be peaceful, but a dark corruption has turned most of the local wildlife aggressive. Nit everything is doom and gloom, however and you’ll still find a few friendly survivors hiding out in safe zones. Out in the wild, you’ll be constantly fighting off corrupted beasts and massive bosses and rare, mythical monsters. These creatures are the ultimate endgame fights.

You aren’t just playing as one hero. You control a duo and can swap between them whenever. Matwin is the main fighter who has a heavy swing. His ability lets him peek into the past. His partner, on the other hand, Lupio, is a small, furry creature who can squeeze through tiny gaps to find hidden loot. Lupio has the power to heal dying souls. These powers are fun to use and they are also tightly connected to the story.

Fighting feels pretty classic. What’s not classic is the arsenal of over twenty different weapons. Whether it’s a sword or a shield or anything in between, the weapons are a joy to use, with a strong and believeable impact. Beating enemies improves stats like strength, agility, and vitality. You can also gather resources and craft better armor. This is a must if you want to survive the really harsh environments, like freezing caves or toxic wastelands. You’re also constantly foraging for food and potion ingredients so you can buff your damage and stay alive during those massive boss fights. To end on a high note, you can also lose yourself in ancient logic puzzles scattered around the map. We strongly encourage you to go for them as they give you rare and nuch appreciated gear.

The art style is especially charming and it makes the world fun to look at. You’re fighting off a dark plague but everything is still oh so bright and cozy. The music holds up its end too, thanks to composer Emanuele Marchese. The team even hit a Kickstarter stretch goal to bring on Yuko Komiyama (Monster Hunter) for some tracks. Right now, you can play a chunk of the map and fight a few bosses in the Early Access build on PC, but the brothers are aiming to launch the massive, fully finished version of the game sometime in 2026. Go for it!
