Far Far West Offers Chaotic Co-Op Fun

Is it just us, or do a lot of extraction shooters feel like second jobs designed to push a battle pass? The grind seems insufferable. And what’s with all the difficulty spikes? Why does every game feel like it’s set in some Dark Souls parallel universe?

If you’re also sick and tired of that model and just want a solid, insanely addictive extraction shooter—one that doesn’t make you constantly reach for your wallet or scream in frustration—then Far Far West is for you. We didn’t mean for that to sound like a cheesy commercial, but it’s true. Regardless, this charming and unique title just wants you to shoot skeleton cowboys. It strips the extraction formula down to an arcade level, making it much more approachable than most games in the genre. We feel like they’ve hit the jackpot; we can’t remember the last time we had this much fun with a group of friends.

Wild Wild West

Three-phase mission structure where you fulfill an objective to draw out the boss, defeat the target, and survive a frantic horde extraction.

Open-map exploration featuring side quests, secret merchants, and rideable mechanical horses. Horsies are awesome!

Dual-combat system blending arcade-style hitscan firearms with cooldown-based elemental spells. It doesn’t just sound cool, it also looks legendary!

Giddy up

After you group up in Far Far West, you board a hover train and drop into an open sandbox. We had plenty of time to wander off the beaten path and explore the beautiful world. The devs really outdid themselves—not only with the map design but also with the animations.

When you’re done admiring the view, you need to roll up your sleeves. You might fix a turret or two for an NPC, mine gold ore deposits, or just farm undead outlaws. This game really shines when it comes to movement and combat. Movement feels inspired by arena shooters; you air dash and jump like Hulk is your bro just so you can manage crowds better. Need to cross the map quickly? Summon a mechanical horse. It feels great on a controller, too.

Three-phase loop

The event draws out your quarry. This is also the moment when your hands start sweating. The first time this happened to us, we knew the game was on—we just didn’t know how it was going to evolve. So, we did something ridiculous (it’s always something ridiculous), like shoving dynamite into a nuclear rocket.

Step two is killing the boss. These encounters force you to reposition and rethink your strategy, not just admire the monstrosities you’re facing. This is also the moment where you need to really focus, letting your primal mind take over and guide your reflexes. Otherwise, you won’t be able to reach step three: the extraction.

This is the best part. The world around you changes, hell breaks loose, and you’re forced to move as fast as possible. You sprint to the station, ring the bell, and hold off a massive horde of rioting skeletons until the train comes back to pull you out. It’s insane, and it works quite well—especially when you take the following into consideration.

Bullets, Black Magic, and Jokers

The combat is mind-blowing; it’s what will keep you logging in. You spawn in with a basic repeater rifle and a revolver and think to yourself: “This can’t be it.” It isn’t, but the gunplay feels meaty right out of the gate regardless. Evil Raptor nailed the weight of the weapons.

Then you discover the magic system, and the whole game takes on a different dimension. You get to pick from five schools of magic: Pyro, Electric, Acid, Voodoo, and Cactus. The spells synergize perfectly. For example, if your buddy drops an acid puddle, you can blast it with a fire or electric spell to trigger a massive chain reaction.

We don’t have many gaming buddies, so we simply had to beg our nephews to indulge us. As we’ve said, the gameplay is fast and satisfying as hell. It naturally creates these emergent, chaotic moments that reward teamwork without forcing you to memorize complex strategies. So, if this game proves to be your jam, well, you better start making friends.

The progression is another feature that makes the game truly shine. While you’re in the hub town saloon, you can spend your loot. Your collected souls will unlock “Jokers”—equippable perk cards that give you traits like bonus damage when your health is low. That system works great, too.

And hey, did we mention that this game is still in Early Access?

The Platformer Influence

The game is beeing built by a micro-studio consisting of exactly eight developers.

Evil Raptor previously developed 3D action-platformers like Pumpkin Jack. In case you’re wondering, we also loved that game.

The Steam Next Fest demo was played by over 400,000 users, securing a 98% Overwhelmingly Positive rating before the Early Access launch.

Unreal Engine 5, the game runs incredibly well on PC.

250 000 copies were sold in the first 24 hours.

We’re happy to have come accrossed a game that respects your time and your wallet as much as this one does. Even in Early Access, Far Far West feels like a breath of fresh air. It successfully replaces the grind with pure and chaotic fun. We can’t wait to see how the game develops in time!
