The amazing devs at CD Projekt Red closed out Gamescom’s Opening Night Live by announcing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. Two very cool surprises about this:
- It launches sooner than you think: next month on September 29
- It will be a completely free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game.
The studio is pushing up to 40 visual and gameplay improvements that rebuild a lot of the core mechanics. We can expect a completely overhauled combat system, a newly revamped skill tree, and updated monster AI that will change how fights actually play out. They have also reworked Geralt’s movement and improved how mounts handle. Yup, this update is a biggie, and that’s just part of it!
Along with a modernized UI and a redesigned tutorial, the update brings highly requested quality-of-life features, like native cross-platform mod support and Xbox Play Anywhere integration.
To make matters even better, the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions are now included for free. The studio also teased a brand-new third expansion called Songs of the Past, which is planned for a 2027 release.
If you already have a copy on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or Switch, the upgrade will automatically show up in your library on the 29th.
