Sunday Sims Spotlight #4: Things That Go Bump in the Sim

The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff is a DLC pack that has a bit of a unique history. It actually originated from a community vote where players chose the “Happy Haunts” theme. More than five years have passed since January 2021, yet it remains one of the most detailed stuff packs in the game’s history. It doesn’t just give you a few spooky items to place around a room. It actually introduces an entirely new way to play by letting Sims live in houses that are actively haunted by spectral roommates. This changes the vibe of the lot every single night.

What is a Sunday Sims Spotlight?

A weekly article designed to inform The Sims community through a detailed look at expansions and numerous add-ons for the cult simulation game. We inform you about what works best in terms of mechanics and all the things you might encounter for decorating your home.

Coexisting with Unseen Roommates

The Haunted House Residential lot type is much more active than the older spooky lot traits. As night falls, little spirits called specters appear and start causing trouble. If they aren’t handled correctly, the house starts acting up, and your Sims will experience flickering lights and creepy dolls appearing. Cursed objects will also pop up, terrifying the Sims to the core. To manage the chaos, the pack includes a Medium skill. By using a seance table, you can calm the spirits or even summon Bonehilda, the fan-favorite skeletal maid who hadn’t been seen since the earlier games in the series.

Professional Exorcism for Fun and Profit

Once a Sim masters the Medium skill and earns a license from the ghost mentor Guidry, they can make a living as a Freelance Paranormal Investigator. The job involves visiting other Sims’ houses to clear out hauntings through various mini-challenges. This means smashing cursed objects, mopping up ghostly slime, or performing ceremonies to banish evil spirits, which feels like a fun nod to classic horror cinema. While these activities are a great throwback to the ghost-hunting mechanics from earlier games, completing these jobs also earns you strange “spooky gifts” that you can keep for your own home or trade for extra rewards. It isn’t just there for nostalgia’s sake.

Vibrant Visuals and Eerie Atmosphere

Instead of the typical dark, gothic look you might expect from a horror theme, this pack leans into a colorful, maximalist Bohemian style. It fills your rooms with vibrant patterns, layered rugs, and cluttered crystal balls. There is also a Scary radio station and plenty of atmospheric noises that make the haunted houses feel genuinely alive, adding a lot of great thematic audio to the gameplay.

What will you find in The Sims™ 4 Paranormal Stuff Pack?

  • Build/Buy Objects: 39 items
  • Create-a-Sim Items: 32 items
  • New skill and radio station

A Meaningful Shift in the Daily Routine

Living in a haunted house actually feels like a genuine challenge because being scared prevents Sims from doing basic tasks like sleeping, socializing, or cooking properly. The pack manages to offer a lot of depth for its size. It definitely proves that a smaller add-on can still feel like a meaningful part of the daily gameplay routine.
