Striving for Light Season 2: The Era of Darkness Update

Season 2 of Striving for Light is dropping soon, and the Era of Darkness is one sweet update that massively overhauls the game. It shakes up the core gameplay with:

  • a new class
  • a punishing roguelike mode
  • and some much-needed progression tweaks.

The game is being sold with 30% discount until May 8

Controlling the Map

The Druid is a new nature-magic class that relies heavily on summoning ancient spirits and dropping totems. You get to pick between two starting weapons that are tied the new Sandfall world event. To explain it simply, you stand inside a specific zone to rack up a new sand currency, which you can trade for some insanely rolled gear. It’s high risk, high reward though. If you die before cashing out, you lose every grain of sand you farmed.

Build crafting is getting a lot looser thanks to a new fifth inventory slot made specifically for Legendary Trinkets. Because these don’t have color requirements anymore, you can just slap one on and use its active ability immediately. On top of that, they tossed in eight new trinkets, five extra weapons, and a few fresh skills. The Volcanic Hit melee attack seems especially wild since it just spreads fire everywhere.

If you feel like the base game got too easy, they finally added a true roguelike option called Darkness Mode. You lose all your permanent upgrades, so every single run starts from scratch using a weird Corrupted Tree for skills. While you’re at it, there are two completely new zones thrown into the mix without any unlock requirements. The Skypath is this high-altitude map with airborne enemies, while the Jungle is basically an overgrown maze. Oh, and the devs totally removed the old map tier cap. Endgame maps just scale infinitely now, so your builds will definitely hit a wall eventually.

They also smoothed out a bunch of rough edges. Expect to see cleaner damage number formatting, a huge soundtrack expansion hitting nearly two hours, and leaderboards that don’t lag out when you try to look at them.
