Froggy Hates Snow: Shoveling Through This Frantic Survival Roguelike

Froggy Hates Snow drops you into a freezing wasteland as an amphibian who just wants to stay warm. It’s a survival roguelike where you literally dig your own paths through the map, shoveling snow to uncover loot, dodge traps, and fight off creepy obsidian monsters before the cold takes you out. What you find here is simple but addictive: head out, fill your pockets with gems, and scurry back to your heated home base to survive and buy better gear.

To handle the escalating threats, you can trade your hard-earned loot for some wild upgrades. You can swap your basic shovel for flamethrowers and explosives, strap on skis for faster travel, or even recruit animal sidekicks like moles and penguins to help you dig. The game walks a weird but fun line between cozy and chaotic. If the dark-fantasy monsters hunting you get to be too much, the developers also included a dedicated peaceful mode where you can just relax, dig, and solve puzzles without the constant threat of death.

A playable demo has been making the rounds on Steam for a little while now, but a recent major update gave it some serious depth. The biggest addition is permanent meta-progression—you can now keep your blue gems between runs to unlock new skills, map zones, and extra characters even after you die.

Players jumping into the demo can currently explore the first two biomes. Alongside Froggy, you can also unlock a new character named Puff, who completely changes the game with a ranged poison-spitting attack. There’s also new gear to test out, like a salt sack designed to melt through stubborn ice blocks. If you’re looking for a fresh, slightly unhinged spin on the extraction survival formula, it’s definitely worth grabbing a shovel.
