Big Apple, Small Screen: Can The Division Resurgence Actually Work on Mobile?

Cramming a massive, loot-heavy cover shooter like The Division onto a smartphone? Sounds like a recipe for cramped thumbs. Yet, Ubisoft has gone ahead and done exactly that with Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence. Now out on iOS and Android, this free-to-play spin-off bridges the story gap between the 2016 original and its D.C. sequel. This is a huge surprise. And, us being long time fans of the franchise, this is a huge, welcoming surprise.

We’re heading back to the snow-choked, virus-ravaged streets of New York City, stepping into the boots of a newly activated sleeper agent just as the Green Poison pandemic tears society apart. Honestly, what’s not to like?

You’re still doing what Division agents do best: hiding behind cars, managing cooldowns, and obsessing over weapon upgrades. The real standout feature here is the flexibility. There are five tactical classes—from frontline shield-bearers to combat medics—and the game lets you swap between them on the fly. It makes tweaking your strategy mid-mission a breeze, whether you’re running solo or matched up with a three-player squad.

Outside the main campaign, Manhattan is packed with the usual open-world distractions like hostage rescues and turf wars. Series veterans will bump into familiar enemies, like the flame-happy Cleaners, but there’s new blood, too. Enter the Freemen: a gang of hyper-aggressive scavengers piecing together deadly makeshift guns from city scrap. And yes, the notoriously tense Dark Zone is back. The high-stakes extraction mode remains a place where alliances go to die. The standard “Conflict” arena mode is perfect for anyone wanting a more straightforward PvP firefight.

You can crank up the difficulty on story missions for better drops. Tackle solo survival gauntlets if you prefer lone-wolfing it. Social features do a lot of the heavy lifting here, too. The clan system lets you pool resources with friends. This allows you to upgrade a shared base. It adds a nice layer of collective progression that encourages frequent logins.

The game just got out, how does the snowy city looks like from the small screen? If you haven’t already, check the iOS or Android game!
