GSC Game World has pulled the curtain back on the first premium add-on for their hit survival shooter. Slated for a summer 2026 release across PC and current-generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles, “Cost of Hope” is the first step in a massive three-part post-launch story arc. Rather than just offering a quick epilogue, this download aims to significantly expand the core experience.

Core DLC Features
- A brand new storyline that blends seamlessly into your current game via a PDA alert.
- Two massive new maps to explore: The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Iron Forest.
- An all-out faction war between Duty and Freedom where your choices matter.
- Dedicated social hubs and fresh questlines for the new regions.
- A wider arsenal of weapons and gear to tackle new hazards.
Bitter feud
The fragile peace between Duty—a military group hellbent on destroying the anomalous territory—and Freedom—who want to harness its bizarre power—has completely collapsed. You will step back into the boots of Skif to navigate this violent fallout. Interestingly, this new narrative runs right alongside the events of the main game and kicks off naturally through an in-game PDA message rather than a separate menu screen.

On the gameplay front, explorers are getting two massive new playgrounds to survive. You can finally brave the iconic, heavily irradiated Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant itself, or try not to get lost in the treacherous Iron Forest. Both of these fresh areas come packed with their own unique quest hubs, localized missions, and brand-new weapons to help you fight off the mutated wildlife.
GSC Game World Fun Facts
- Sergiy Grygorovych originally founded the studio in Kyiv way back in 1995.
- Before dominating the survival horror space, the team found huge success with the historical strategy game Cossacks.
- The team continues to actively develop games amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine, officially supporting national relief funds.

It is genuinely impressive to see the Ukrainian studio sticking to their ambitious roadmap despite the ongoing realities of the war in their home country. Choosing to weave this expansion directly into the existing campaign is a smart move that respects the game’s open-ended design. If GSC Game World can deliver meaningful faction politics alongside the tense, atmospheric gunplay we already expect, “Cost of Hope” will be a fantastic reason to brave the radioactive wastes all over again.
