Hands-On With The Expanse: Osiris Reborn This April

Get ready to float, shoot, and survive in zero-g! Owlcat Games just dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn at the Xbox Partner Preview, and it looks like the sci-fi RPG we’ve all been waiting for is finally prepraring to open its doors! Stepping away from their usual isometric style, the studio is giving us a massive, third-person cinematic adventure that’s giving off serious Mass Effect vibes. While the full game won’t launch until Spring 2027, you won’t have to wait that long to test out your magnetic boots…if you’re willing to pay the price.

Core Beta Features

  • Master zero-gravity movement and explore a massive space station.
  • Engage in tactical, third-person combat against armed corporate forces.
  • Experience deep dialogue trees and make choices that matter with the locals.
  • Get a sneak peek at early progression and equipment upgrade mechanics.

Mark the date!

A closed beta kicks off on April 22nd for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, getting in is not as easy as one would think. For this exclusive access, you need to grab either the Collector’s Edition or the Miller’s Pack from the game’s official website. If you decide to jump in, you’ll step into the shoes of a Pinkwater Security mercenary dealing with the terrifying aftermath of the Eros incident. You’ll get to explore a remote space station, try out the zero-gravity movement, and get a real feel for the tactical third-person combat against corporate enemies.

When the full game finally drops in Spring 2027, it will be available everywhere PC gamers play (Steam, Epic, and GOG), alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Even better? Xbox and PC players with Game Pass will get to play it on day one.

Owlcat Games: Fun Facts

  • The studio was originally founded by a tight-knit group of industry veterans who bonded over their love for tabletop role-playing games.
  • The studio is primarily famous for the critically-acclaimed Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and, our personal fave, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader!
  • Even with over 450 employees worldwide, the team still makes time to roll dice together every single week, both in person and online!

Call to action!

Moving from classic CRPGs to a fast-paced action game in Unreal Engine 5 is a big leap for Owlcat. But given their amazing track record for writing deep companions and branching storylines, they are the perfect team to tackle The Expanse universe. If the beta proves that the zero-g combat is as fun as it looks, this could easily be one of the biggest hits of 2027.
